Nikon's legendary 105mm micro (macro).
I managed to get this for a silly price.
£190 silly
It's a bit slower focusing than the more modern 105mm vr micro, and it's certainly not as quiet focusing and doesn't have stabilisation, but lets be honest, it's a macro lens, it doesn't need that. What it does need is to be sharp. Mega sharp.
And it is.
Here are some shots with it and a 10p piece. Unfortunately due to the weather I haven't been able to get any real shots so these will have to do for now!
First shot wide open at 1:1, F5:
How about we stop it down? f22:
Getting better, that's a more usable DoF with enough detail in focus.
Let's crop it a bit (click for 100% previews):
Pretty good, but a little trick I learned for making some lenses look sharper is to increase contrast on those that lack it, the macro whilst good didn't handle flash on a metal coin as well as some, so a quick blast on the curves (again click for 100% preview):
Sharp? Sharp!
