X100 dynamic range and recovery

I'd heard for a while that the X100 had an amazing dynamic range and allowed a silly amount of detail to be recovered from the highlights and shadows of a photo, but having a D3 I figured it couldn't be much better than that, surely?!

How wrong I was!

With just a quick flick of the exposure, recovery, fill light, and contrast options in Lightroom I managed to bring back an incredibly amount of detail. In comparison, experience tells me the D3 would have managed to bring back about as much detail in the shadows, but with a fair amount of added noise, but wouldn't have managed to bring anywhere near as much of the highlights back, nor the detail and colour captured right around the sun. Fantastic!
