Passing the Perfect Location

On my daily cycle to the train station I pass a lot of rather mundane locations, all of which are rather uninspiring, however earlier in the week I decided to walk for various reasons. This is a walk I've taken many times, and usually end up going along the same route on my long runs too. Again it's a rather mundane route for the best part; there's a couple of pubs, a university building, lots of roads and a dingy looking canal.

Turns out I've been walking past the perfect location for a while without even realising it.

Leicester Castle Classic

The not so correctly name Leicester Castle Classic is a bike race through parts of Leicester city centre and passing the Mary de Castro church... it's not so classical in the sense of 2013 was it's first year!

I'm massively into my bikes, so I decided to take a trip down to drool at the pro cyclists' bikes and maybe get 1 or 2 good photos.

Holiday

I recently went on a holiday to see a friend down on the south east coast. I took my bike expecting to get a lot of free time to myself and figured I could visit some of the towns and cities around. This decision determined what camera I would take away with me; the D3 being far too big without adding lenses in the equation and the X100 fitting perfectly in my saddle bag made it a no brainer. Naturally I feared that I'd be limited with a 35mm equivalent lens, even though I now use mostly primes on my D3 I still have some flexibility.

My fear, however, was unfounded. The X100 has fast become my favourite camera due to it's flexibility, it might not have an array of lenses but it is small enough to take anywhere.

Speedway Fun

One of my closest friends is massively into his motorcycles (at some point I'll have to convince him to let me do a shoot of his bike); he recently took a speedway day and invited me along to take some photos.

Little did I know, he'd already cleared it for me to stand in the centre field.

Quick update

Well I haven't posted anything in a while, for which there is a good reason.

I've been broken into again... and yes kit was stolen...

Fortunately it hasn't been as bad as the previous burglary, and wasn't linked either, but my beloved Sigma 120-300 2.8 has gone, and the X100 had to go back to fund some sort of security.

On a happier note I have been taking photos again and as the better weather comes I plan on getting some more shots up, more updates in, and more work on. Over the next few days I'll add some photos that I've done over the past couple of weeks and get this show rolling again!

X100 dynamic range and recovery

I'd heard for a while that the X100 had an amazing dynamic range and allowed a silly amount of detail to be recovered from the highlights and shadows of a photo, but having a D3 I figured it couldn't be much better than that, surely?!

How wrong I was!

Foggy photos (part 1)

I've had an idea for quite some time to get a very specific shot in the pre-sunrise fog, however predicting fog is incredibly difficult at the best of times, but getting it thick enough to actually impact a photo is where I've struggled in the past.
